That was quite the hiatus...

... But I'm back. Between finals, moving, and now working this summer, blogging has fallen by the wayside. What have you been up to so far this summer? I'm spending my days at the American Girl Boutique and Bistro, waiting tables. Here I am on the day that the newest doll, Rebecca Rubin, launched in stores - like my hat?

Other than that, not too much is new. I've been working out a lot, and lost about 10 pounds and then it came to a screeching halt. I have a feeling that Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred might be in order again... that one kills, but man does it work! I'm thinking about rewarding myself with these Joe's if i meet my goal before I head back to Oxford (only 6 weeks away!)

We went to Hilton Head to celebrate the 4th, but I was camera-less, so nothing to share from that escapade...

I'm on a scrapping roll again, and the boy visits next weekend... so I'm sure that I'll have PLENTY to post soon! I've missed blogging, it feels good to be back =)

A random photoshoot

Yesterday (at the crack of dawn - thanks, Miami) I had to register for classes for the fall semester. Because of my major (Early Childhood Ed), and how the program is set up, I didn't have too much to worry about. Everything that I needed to take was blocked out for me, I just had to decide which times I wanted.

Well, at the last minute I decided to add something "fun" to my schedule - but because I have to travel to schools for 2 weeks of next semester anything additional that I wanted to take had to start after 6 PM. That didn't leave too many choices - in fact, it knocked out both Ice Skating and Social Dance - so, I'll be taking "Beginning Artistic Photography" at the Hamilton campus next fall. I'm really excited about it, and hope that I get a lot out of it =).

So that was the initial bite of the photography bug. Then, it was absolutely gorgeous outside yesterday... So, I dragged (drug?) Alex around campus with me so that I could practice taking halfway decent photographs that don't involve groups of girls in funky costumes doing the "sorority squat". Here are my favorites.... I'd love to hear any constructive criticism! I know they're nowhere near the amazing photos that some of you take, but it was fun to goof around...

Of course, 21 year old males can't be serious ALL the time...

And one more layout from the crop this weekend... The challenge was to "remix" an old layout, so I re-did the "Adore" layout that's further down this page. I promise that I do know the rules of punctuation - my font didn't have apostrophes! =)

The layout itself is round, but I'm not sure if it loaded that way or if it has a white background - so, I hope it looks right!

Have a great afternoon!

For my challenge - use a grid in your layout

The challenge on this one was to use incomplete circles - kind of a "different" subject to scrap, but I'm happy with the way that it turned out.

The challenge here was the 3Rs - Ribbon, Rubons, and Writing... I really like this one.

I'll be back tomorrow with some more - have a great day! =)

My last few days have been....

... Interesting, to say the least.

Wednesday night I went to Hobby Lobby to by scrapping stuff to make an album for my "big" (who happens to be tinier than me; see pictures on the big-little reveal LO below). I was planning on spending about $40.

Well, you know how Hobby Lobby is.... especially when I had been buying only digital stuff for so long. It was all so pretty, and I swear some of it just *leaped* into my cart.

You can't see it all too well in the picture, but there's an album, 2 packages of paper (a stack and just plain cardstock), and wayyy too many nifty embellishments  in my little haul. Whoops. Also, ignore the strange table and carpet; they're in the basement of my dorm. My room isn't currently in scrapping (or doing much of anything besides dodging piles to get to the bed) condition.

Thursday morning, my roommate and I traveled to the University of Dayton, about an hour away. I wanted to see my high school indoor drumline participate in WGI finals (there's a little glimpse into my geek-dom) and she decided to ride along to meet up with her best friend from high school. It was great to see some high school friends, and we even stopped at Target on the way home - I may have picked up some goodies for a door prize for the online crop over at 2peas tonight ;-) - and some other essentials like 100 Calorie pack Milano cookies. Yum.

All was well and good, until we got back to Miami and I had to go move my car. Then this
happened. I (the blue car) had parked rather crookedly and was looking all over the place as I backed out, thinking "this doesn't feel right". Sure enough, about 2.2 seconds later, THUNK, and I met a fellow Dorsey Hall resident rather up close and personal. I felt (and still feel) absolutely horrible, but she was super-sweet about the whole thing. Her parents are coming up to Oxford this weekend, and will let me know what they want to do from here. The damage on my car isn't bad - it really is only the white scratches; that photo has a ton of glare on it that makes it look like I put the car through a paper crimper - but the door panel on hers looks pretty bad.

Since then, I've been laying low and just getting some last-minute things organized for the crop this weekend. I did a few layouts last night, but I'm not thrilled with them... I think I'm going to play a little more.

I'm off to go for a run - it's SO nice outside! - then clean this room so that I can actually *move* during the crop tonight and tomorrow. Would anybody be interested in seeing dorm room photos? That could be boring, I know. Leave me a comment and tell me your thoughts =).

If you have some time this weekend, head over to the General Scrappin' board on 2peas! Monica_blain and I have worked hard on this crop, and hope to have lots of participation. 6-10 pm (EST) tonight and 8 am - 8 pm (EST) tomorrow.... Lots of challenges - and a 2peas gift card with each challenge! Maybe even some extra surprises thrown in there ;-).

Oh, before I forget - someone asked what paddle painting was. Here's the paddle that I made for my big - ignore the glares, they're where there is clear glue.

Have a great afternoon!

A quick one

Just a quick post today of a layout that I did last night ...

I'm off to Hobby Lobby after class to get supplies to make an AOII scrapbook for my "big" - should be a fun trip!
Have a great day!

Happy Tuesday!

Hoping that everyone had a good Easter weekend!

On Friday after class, my friends Leslee and Ellie and I treated ourselves to manicures - a nice Friday treat! There's an antique store next to the nail place uptown, so of course I had to wander in... Bought  a McGuffy Reader from 1901 for $24 =). My mom had a little collection of them, so I'm thinking I may give it to her for Mother's Day - otherwise, I'll keep it and start my own collection. McGuffy taught and lived at Miami, so he's a pretty big name around here. Friday night we had a game night and played Partini, which I'd never played before - it was a blast.

Saturday was a nice relaxing day - my roommate went home for the weekend, so I had the room to myself and did a major "spring clean". Then watched Miami Hockey play in the national final - it was a heartbreaker of a game! We were up 3-1 with a minute left, they scored twice in 40 seconds, and we lost in overtime! We do have a fairly young team - I think 8 freshmen - so maybe next year will be better =)

Sunday morning I drove to Dayton (about an hour away) and spent the day with my aunt and uncle, grandparents, cousin, and her boyfriend - it was nice to see everyone! We had a yummy dinner, and I even got some leftovers to bring home ;-).

I'm hoping to scrap a little bit this afternoon - the weather is really bleh and kind of cold, so curling up inside sounds good to me! Some recent layouts...

Have a great day!

So this is it, I guess

My first post. I've been thinking about starting a blog for while, and finally decided to "just do it". I really don't have anything way too exciting to say today, or any cute stories to tell - it's been a pretty typical day. I'll tell you a little bit about myself - the basics.

I'm 19 years old, a freshman at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio... Majoring in Early Childhood Ed.

After moving five times before the age of 8, I spent most of my "growing up" years in a suburb of Atlanta. Even though I never lived in Ohio as a kid, I kind of consider it "home" in a strange way - I have family all over the state that I've been visiting for a loooong time.

I'm short. Really short. Barely 5'0. And petite, although the freshman 8 has gotten to me in the last few months. I'm workin' on it ;-).

I have a pretty unique style. I call it "classy and quirky". I love antique stores and flea markets (not something you'd expect from the average college kid), and have a strange attraction to vintage illustrations - all this along with J. Crew, Anthropologie, and Urban Outfitters. And Target. Target's a big one. Kind of a strange variety, I know.

I scrapbooked a lot in middle and early high school, then took a break for awhile. I'm back in the swing of things, trying digital and loving it so far.

I named my blog "A Curly Life" because I really do feel like my life and personality at this point are full of little twists and turns. No two days are ever exactly the same, I'm a little bit all over the place sometimes, and I (fairly often) have random tidbits to share.

So that's me in a nutshell... I'll be back tomorrow with some layouts =)
